Zenith Bank Plc has reiterated its dedication to fostering business relations between Canada and Africa through its sponsorship of the 6th Canada Africa Business Conference held in Lagos.
This conference, organised by the Canada Africa Chamber of Business, featured the participation of Canadian firms, government representatives, investors, diplomats, and businessmen in discussing ways of building business ties. The conference also shed light on Nigeria being a gateway to African markets.
The Canadian delegation included representatives from 31 companies operating in sectors such as financial services, mining, infrastructure, technology, healthcare, education, legal services and clean energy. Discussions focused on expanding investment, strengthening business ties and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Speaking at the event on behalf of Zenith Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Adaora Umeoji, Executive Director Akin Ogunranti said Africa is better positioned than ever to drive global economic growth because of stronger institutions, improved policies and growing partnerships. He said the priority is to convert the continent’s potential into lasting economic benefits.
Representing the Lagos State Government, Permanent Secretary Babatunde Onigbanjo said the state remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment and attracting international investment. He added that Canada’s expertise and investment capacity complement Africa’s growing markets and skilled workforce.
Canada’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Carlos Rojas-Arbulú, said commercial relations between the two countries are entering a new phase with greater opportunities for practical cooperation. The conference also featured discussions on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), technology transfer and regional trade.
The event is expected to strengthen investment links, encourage private sector partnerships and support Nigeria’s position as a regional business hub.
