Envision Energy has signed a battery energy storage system supply agreement with SOLA Group and WBHO for the Naos-1 renewable energy project in South Africa, as the company pushes deeper into the continent’s clean energy market.
The deal covers a 660 MWh battery storage system and supports what developers describe as the largest privately contracted hybrid renewable energy project in South Africa to reach financial close.
Located near Viljoenskroon in the Free State province, Naos-1 will pair 300 MW of solar photovoltaic generation with the 660 MWh battery storage system. The project will supply dispatchable renewable electricity to major private businesses across the country.
Envision Energy will provide technical support across the full lifecycle of the storage system, covering design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance. The company will also deploy its AI-powered energy management system to improve performance and operational reliability.
The agreement includes a 25-year Long-Term Service Agreement between Envision Energy and SOLA Group for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the battery storage system.
John Lee, General Manager of Asia and Africa Markets at Envision Energy, said the project demonstrated how integrated renewable and storage solutions could redefine future energy systems by delivering clean power alongside reliability and economic value.
Ian Burger, Managing Director of SOLA Build at SOLA Group, said Naos-1 reflected a new generation of energy infrastructure built to meet the demands of modern power markets.
The agreement follows Envision Energy’s recent opening of its first Cape Town office, which will serve as a regional hub for Southern Africa covering wind power, battery storage and integrated renewable energy activities.
